accessible XM Radio

Someone on an e-mail list I belong to answered a query regarding blind people using XM satellite radio. Below is the response he got after responding to this query

Hello, Jarrod!
Thanks for writing. XM was "considering" this feature 2 years ago. All the e-mails have rattled their cage.
> I'll forward your note to Bill, my contact at XM engineering. Bill's Mom is visually impaired, so he definitely has an interest in seeing XM radios become blind friendly.
> We've now gotten XM engineering management's attention. They're working hard to put a package together to convince XM's upper management how important blind-friendly radios will be for the 30 million visually impaired Americans.
Here's the best way to keep up with our progress: Ziggy and Ed have
established a forum at the www.xm411.com user forum.

> Ed, the whizkid webmaster is working hard to make the website more
accessible to the visually impaired.
Please feel free to post. XM management reads this website.
Best Regards,
Ralph

Thanks so much, Becky. I saw something on the Fred's Head Database from APH about a company also interested in this. For once, we might have some competition for a mainstream product to become blind friendly. I've two XM receivers here. One we keep in the car, and the other in the boombox over top of the computer.

Thanks again,

Lou

Thanks for posting this. I have considered xm radio before, but never have found one I was comfortable with.

Maybe things will change.

keep your eye on blindcooltech. I put up a review on there about the xm radio I have. it's very very cool. and it's not directly accessible, but it works fine

Sure, this topic was from 3 years ago, literally, but I'm bringing it back to say this. There is now an accessible xm and satellite radion. You use the iPhone as the remote for the phone and the car that has the radio reciever will pick up the iPhone's signal or whatever it uses to remotely listen to the radio. And I'm pretty sure it's accessible with VoiceOver.

Ah yes. That podcast of Liam's was definitely interesting. Then again they usually are from what I've noticed. I might actually get one but funds are a bit...limited.
